Considering that there is virtually zero snow in the Sierras right now, and not really to my surprise, legendary Sierra Slayer Glen Poulsen and friend Sarah hightailed it to Jackson on New Year’s Eve for a few days of skiing in the Tetons. Unfortunately, I’m smack dab in the […]
Here’s is a little video stoke (it’s a little slow and mind-numbing) from skiing Okie’s Thorn Couloir last week with Reed Finlay. It’s a pretty obscure line, but the couloir sits directly skier’s left of the Dike Couloir, a popular descent on Garnet Canyon/Glacier Gulch loop-tours. It also runs below a sharp pinnacle, called Okie’s […]
While waiting for the bigger lines in the park to stabilize, I got out recently with Reed Finlay to ski a line on the north side of 25 Short that we have both both been eying for many years. Although 25 Short is a rather tame and low angle powder run, the lines on its […]
While skiing this steep line in the northern range yesterday, a 12-18″ slab released to my right on the fourth turn. Luckily, it didn’t pull-out above me and I was able to ski away unscathed. You can see the crown lower on the ridge on the right, and if you look close enough, the powder […]
Had a cool bighorn sheep sighting yesterday. Normally the sheep don’t run right towards you, but I think another party down canyon might have spooked them towards us.
Over the weekend, I skied Peak 10,696 in Grand Teton National Park with Randokitty. The weather was pretty burly, with wind gusts close to 70mph that day. The skiing was halfway decent, when you could see, and Kitty got blasted by a huge wind gust on her descent.
Well, it wasn’t technically “the” weekend, but it was my weekend, and it was a mixed bag of early starts, reconnaissance and ripping fast powder turns in Grand Teton National Park. Click all photos for large image. Hello Mr. Bighorn. If you would just stand still for a second I can get the money shot.
After working some crazy busy days at the shop over the holidays, I wasn’t going to let sub-zero temps keep me away from skiing on New Year’s Day. A couple brave souls, Reed Finlay and Brian Ladd, joined me on the trek into Avalanche Canyon to recon a line that is currently in my cross-hairs […]
It’s crazy how sometimes it’s the smaller lines and peaks that have you scared to death and wondering if this will be the day that takes you down. This was the case yesterday, when Reed Finlay and I were skiing on Two Elk Peak. This relatively benign line on Two Elk Peak had me fearing […]
Picture taken at 2:30PM on 4/14/10 while crossing Leigh Lake in Grand Teton National Park. Hola! I’m skinning across Leigh Lake in Grand Teton National Park right now, on the way to spend a couple nights in Leigh Canyon. Conditions are pretty prime in the Tetons right now for ski touring and it will be […]

With a relatively slow start to the ski season, a marginal and sometimes sketchy snowpack, its’ been a little difficult to really get after it this year. Luckily, things are starting to turn around and I’ve slowly started to venture into some steeper and more exposed terrain. Here’s a little video compilation of some of […]
For those that live outside of the Teton County and haven’t experienced it, it’s been pretty wild to see how the forest fires in and around Grand Teton National Park have reacted to the weather conditions over the past week. Shifting winds have really kicked up the flames and have blown the smoke plums towards […]
This is the register from the first ascent of Mount Moran in 1922… …though not discovered until 1964. If there is one thing for sure, there is a ton of climbing history here in the Teton Range. Some of it is well known, yet some of it is also lost forever. However, great pains have […]
Photo Courtesy of TetonClimbing.com. It’s that time of year again when the parking lot fills up at Lupine Meadows trailhead and a line forms in the early morning hours at the Jenny Lake Ranger Station with people looking for permits and information on route conditions in the high peaks. Luckily for us, the rangers have […]

Randokitty skis Chute the Moon. Last weekend, I got out with a great skier-friend of mine and finally “Shot the Moon”! Chute the Moon is hardly radical by TetonAT standards, but I had been staring at (and obsessing about) this aesthetic line on the north side of Peak 10,696 for most of this ski season. […]
