The collapsed tower on the Excalibur Gondola at Blackcomb.

Feeling safe about this weekends new tram opening at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort? Well, you might want to think again because just to add to the excitement, a gondola tower at Blackcomb in British Colombia collapsed today. Luckily there were no injuries, but many had to be evacuated and one car hung dangerously close to a fast moving creek. I think I’ll let some of you other folks test drive the big new red box at Teton Village this weekend. Things happen in threes…right? More on the collapse here.
Heard a truck hit the tower causing the failure. Glad no one was seriously hurt.
Thanks for the info Chad!
Holy cow Steve…how can you even suggest something like that? This town is small enough to churn my stomach when I hear an ambulence knowing it could likely be a friend….no less a tram filled with 100 of them.
I know youre all about backcountry, but I promise if something were to happen to the new box, you would closely know someone inside.
Real poor taste.
You mean like suggesting that someone might die in an avalanche….or falling off a cliff? Yes, it would be a tremendous tragedy of anything like this were to happen at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, but patrol and the tram department train to respond to accidents like this….because they do happen. Don’t blame me for your fears.
