Skinning across Jackson Lake yesterday
That guy is a real machine for skiing on the lake. Look at him go!! Does that make him illegal?
Last time I checked, Laddie was a skiing-machine…fueled by 100% octane….skiing stoke!!!
Why skin across a lake that appears to be covered in such firm snow? Lengthen the poles and skate, no? I’m an Eastcoaster we have it hard enough AT’ing over here, I understand adversity, why make a long crossing less effective by skinning? Rip off the skins and V2 the 7 miles, far easier and almost 3x faster… Just curious.
Good question. It had been snowing for the past few days and we didn’t really know what conditions we might have in store further out. The ski across was only three miles, so by the time you strip and rip…and then re-apply…along with other distractions that come along with stopping…it just didn’t seem worthy. We kicked and glided back across in the afternoon sans skins. Also, skating in fat skis isn’t that fun…not that Verdicts are all that fat…but. And…in the cold morning temps (still winter around here), sometimes it kinda bites when you get the other side all sweaty from pumping it across the flats in the early morning hours. Springtime…I’d be chiming a different tune.
I have employed skating/crust cruising into rando tours though, and once skated from String Lake parking lot all the way to Bivouac Peak…about 7 miles…on snow covered lakes and terra-firma.
How’s the snow/ice at the north end of the lake? A few of us are planning on doing a little exploration up there this weekend.
Looked fine. A few big wumps while crossing to Waterfall Canyon…but that’s it. Might be up that way myself.
why not just snowmobile?
sweet ass shot.
