Though most Hollywood movies don’t really interest me, this one about Aron Ralston sure does. I find stories of survival very inspiring and motivational in my own pursuits. Yeah…we should always tell people where we are going in the mountains (something that may have saved Aron’s arm? ) especially when going solo, but we can’t blame him for flailing on the day that changed his life…forever. Here’s the trailer of the latest flick about his life and accident.
This second clip is a pretty wild recount from Aron that was aired on The Learning Channel a few years ago. He tells the story of the actual process of cutting his own arm off, to save his own life. It's quite detailed, which makes it good. Good on ya Aron...I think I'll go see the movie!
Can’t wait for the flick. Getting good reviews. Awesome story. For whatever it’s worth, I’m pretty confident that had Aaron left his whereabouts with someone, it still would have been a day or two until SAR arrived and they would have lopped off his arm anyway. No doubt it was toast. The only difference is he would have missed out on 3 additional days of hell thinking about it and we probably would not still be hearing about his epic. One could argue that his life has been way more interesting since because of how it all went down. It would be interesting to ask him how he would prefer it if he had a chance to do it again.
Aron’s life was just as reckless before his fame. I can remember reading of him and his ski partner buried neck deep by self triggered avalanche some where in the Castle Creek Valley in the local newspaper. He also has some amazing shots of his near miss on the deadly Maroon Bells the same winter.
Like a moth to a flame.
good point brian. i can’t imagine cutting my own arm off and i’m not sure i could do it. hard to say…his mind must have been going crazy.
They should have called it "A Farewell to Arm".
