I think Olympic level skiers are the best and most skilled skiers in the world, and it’s cool to see that US Olympic skier Julia Mancuso recently competed in the Verbier Xtreme comp. Julia placed third, behind Ane Enderud and Jess McMillan (watch their runs here…and here), in the event. Which is pretty good considering it was her first technical and steep run of the year…AND here first time on the skis she was using. Nice job Mancuso!!!
she got ripped off, she should have win, easely…. by far the fastest and flowest run!
i was hesitant to say something gilles, with respect to the other gals, but i can see where you are coming from. she sent that top air in style and skied very nicely! granted though…jess mentioned she wasn’t happy with her run in her blog.

I agree with gillesleskieur. I have seen a lot of negative comment regarding racers freeriding.
Here is a video of Aksel Lund Svindal, Olympic Gold Champion, doing freeride:

Big Up Julia for given ‘er! I also agree with gillesleskieur and call BS. She roasted the other girls!!! Who are those judges anyways?!?! BTW Eva Walkner is also ex-Austrian National Team. I wonder how Lindsay Vonn would have done??;-) Looked like fun snow.
I agree, she should have won
What do the judges usually like to see? …best I can tell, it’s more huck (how many and how big) than speed. Did Julia win on those, I don’t know – I might be biased. She looked freakin’ awesome on her line though!
btw, sweet Fairy Meadows pics Steve!
Wow, thank goodness you idiots aren’t judges. Mancuso took the most boring unimaginative line down the face possible. You are all probably the lamers that just do figure eights down the hill regardless the terrain.
Shocked: see your point. I do however think that Ane lacked too much flow. I see flow as a basic ingredient that should always be there – and yes I don’t drop anything large myself (but that is really beside the point).
well, if skitching around and sideslipping into mediocre airs is what it takes to be a podium finisher i think I have what it takes!
Mancuso may not have skied the most technical line, but she skied like an Olympian and stomped a big ass air in the process, which is more that I can say about the other podium finishers….

Hey Shocked, can you teach me to do a figure 8. That sounds more tricky that a cork 720 cause it sounds like you have to turn back uphill to loop around your turn. Probably requires carving skis eh?
