One thing I love about having this website is communicating with all the other skiers from around the world. Many of us come from the same mold and we are all passionate about our skiing. One particular TetonAT.com visitor, whom I only know as “Matus”, is from Slovakia and comments often on these pages. Recently, he sent me a link to a video he made skiing the KrÄmárov Couloir (don’t even think about asking me about pronunciation) in the High Tatras Mountains of Slovakia. Pretty fun video if you ask me. The end especially. Thanks for sharing Matus!
Sweet video. That looks like a lot of fun.
Question for Matus: for those of us that would like to get to Europe to do some skiing, how does the cost of living/traveling/skiing compare between Slovakia and say Switzerland or France? If it’s more affordable you could have some new North American ski partners.
Think Switzerland/France – Jumbo Jet and Slovakia/Czech/Poland Twinprop Otter.
Hey Steve, where’s he pearl jam over dub? Great video Matus, great music.
I agree, the video and the music rocks! Nice change of tone with the music…
Here are some more videos from europe (from Slovenia):

Nice video Matus. Great work putting this all together in style with some cool music in the background. Worth watching.
For all of you out there Slovakia and Poland, for example, are places with a variety of rando terrain. Beautiful chains of Bieszczady, Beskidy and Tatry Mountains waiting to be explored plus these Eastern European countries are more exotic than Western ones. People are friendly and speak English in most cases.
For those interested there is a lot of information on the web.
Maybe, on the occasion of going East, you could throw in the trip report from Bieszczady Mountains I have sent some time ago. What do you think Steve?
Thanks for the reminder Paul. I still have your trip report on my desktop.
If you want to find out about ski touring in Poland and Slovakia you can visit http://skitury.fora.pl
If you scroll down there is a section for any questions people from abroad may have about AT in Poland and Slovakia – you can correspond in English, German and French.
Cheers all.
Two thumbs up for the edit of the whole story and the rocking soundtrack.
i tried to ski there last winter but there was no snow and we stayed in cham,,,,id like to check it out next time im over there running around in a speed suit perhaps
Hello all, thanks for watching and thanks Steve for sharing. I took approx. 10 hours to make the video. Or more….
Patricio, the costs of living/traveling/skiing in Slovakia comparing to Switz. or France are considerably lower (the fuel is about the same). However, the services are…well not always good enough. Our mountains are beautiful, but you get what you pay for. If you want to save the money, you are welcome. If you want perfect services – do not expect it. If you are looking for great AT opportunities, Slovakia is a good choice (good cell phone coverage in the mountains, professional rescue service, avalanche monitoring and statistics, web cams, mountain huts). If you are interested to know more, please send me an e-mail on kuchynanet (a t) gmail (d o t) com.

Yo that music was iron curtain as f**k! What was it?
The mail song is “Mausam & Escape (instrumental)” by A. R. Rahman.
You can find the tune also in the Slumdog Millionaire movie by Danny Boyle.
