On days like today…when the avy danger is high and it is snowing 1-2″ and hour it’s always fun to check in with the Teton Pass cam to see how things are going up there. A few days ago I heard about a fight that broke out, but today it looks like skiers are dealing with their cars being plowed in by a 5′ wall of snow. Now that’s fun with an avy shovel!!!!!
Looking good up there in Jackson. We’re getting some too down here in Aspen. Will C. and I are headed up there on the 8th. We should hook up and ski some broskinar pow.
Hey Mark!
Getting nailed right now for sure. I’m skiing on the 9th…then resting for a race on the 12+13th. Let’s hook up…preferably for some BC POW!!!! š
I headed over at 8:30 a.m. and the parking lot had not been plowed at all. The scuttlebutt is that they didn’t want people skiing at all so they didn’t plow the lot. When we came over people were shoveling out spots to park. The lot was nearly full. We were up there yesterday, bell to bell and there was almost no one up there. I guess that proves that the skiing is better when it’s HIGH avy danger. Avalanches must not happen anymore.
Thanks for the info Chris!!!!!!!!!
Hey, that’s bullshit them not plowing. Who are they to say that we can’t ski? We did two runs on 2cd turn today and it was fine … primo actually. Yeah, it was a little sketchy up at the top (kicked off a few small wind slabs) and there were a lot of things that would indeed be stupid to ski, but there were also plenty of good, safe lines to ski as well if you used safe ski practices.
I wasn’t up there or anything (I go other places for backcountry turns), but I would be pissed with a huge wall of concrete snow plowed in behind me. Especially, after a hard day of skiing, and if needed to be to work on time. Who is Wyodot to say if people can ski or not? Just as long as the highway isn’t closed; last time I checked it is the National Forest. Do as you please on our public lands, without putting others in danger or being a total turd.
I would be hesitant to jump the gun saying WYDOT intentionally didn’t plow the top lot in the early am to keep skiers off the slopes. I think they were probably busy focused on just keeping the road passable…which I’m sure was a challenge.
My two cents.
[…] There was a comment and some discussion on a Teton Pass webcam post last week insinuated that WYDOT intentionally didnāt plow the top parking lot that morning to keep skiers from being up there. I talked with some people I know at WYDOT and I can assure you that is definitely not the case. Bear in mind that the priorities of plowing snow on Teton Pass are as follows…first the road, then the chain up areas and then the parking lots. Instead of getting upset at them for putting a mound of snow behind your car, I would actually thank them for keeping the road even openā¦which canāt be easy when itās snowing 1-2ā and hourā¦not to mention doing snow control on the very slopes you are skiing.
