Time to start planning!!! The members of the 2008 US Ski Mountaineering Team have been announced by the United States Ski Mountaineering Association and it looks like I’m headed for Europe!!! Here is a link to the World Ski Mountaineering Championships website. One of the races has 10’000′ of vertical. The members of the team are:
- Ethan Passant: Crested Butte
- Cary Smith: Jackson
- Brian Wickhauser: Crested Butte
- Brandon French: Kalispell
- Steve Romeo: Jackson
- Scott Coldiron: Boulder/Spokane
- Chris Kroger: Jackson
- Jon Brown: Crested Butte
- Zahan Billimoria: Driggs
- Todd Glew: Salt Lake City
While I’m glad to be back in the Jackson, it looks like there was another incident on Teton Pass while I was gone. Sounds like there was some sort of altercation when one skier tried to pass another on the bootpack. Visit JHUnderground.com for all the juicy details, comments and controversies. More info in this article in the JH News and Guide.
Peak above Snowbasin Ski area where the on-snow Demo was.
Kinda looks like Lone Peak at Big Sky.
I’m a little over taking about gear and the Outdoor Retailer right now, but just a final few thoughts. I think Movement Skis had the most interesting graphic on their ski…the Joystick and I felt like I had a flashback when I looked at it’s 3D like graphics. I’m not sure if this picture does it justice, but take a look.
Getting hurt in the winter has to be my worst nightmare and I’m proud of RandoKitty for being so positive through her own recovery. I don’t know what I would do if I couldn’t ski…maybe I could learn something from Knitting Nick Devore!
At my appointment with Dakine, they said this pack was on the conservative side. Boy, did that make me feel old. I wonder if Arc’teryx makes any plaid softshells.
His royal Blogness Lou Dawson and Randosteve.
Great to see the whole Dawson family joining in the gear extravaganza.
At OR a few years ago there was a tornado that killed one person and reeked havoc on the show. This year the building across the street burned down. Not sure if I will attend the next show…seems like it’s an accident magnet.
Andrew Mclean sent me this advertisement for Alta. He and some others wondered what I was doing in an Alta ad. I sure don’t remember posing for this one, so it must be my long lost twin. What do you think?
Congrats on making the team. Good Luck in Europe.
Congrats to all those who made it. You guys are fast!
As for fighting on the trailhead …… well, if a couple of slow hikers gets everyone that riled up, I’d love to see how they react to some REAL problems in life ……… Funny stuff.
Nice work Randoobiewon. Congratulations on making the team. I’m not getting out of your way on the Glory bootpack though. HA HA!
Thanks Yo!

Holy shit Steve, your long lost twin is T-Roy!! I skied with that guy a bunch in NZ this past winter. I even introduced him to Dynafits!
Nice job to all you guys for getting on the team, are there any girls on the team?
Looking forward to seeing you guys here. Come a week early and race in the French champs, its about 45mins from were I am living…….
Funny you know that guy Grant. I think Mona is the only female. I’m planning on spending a little time afterwords checking things out.
Congrats on making the team. That is a great accomplishment and it sounds like the competition was tight. We will all be eager to see how things go!
