With just over a week left of tabulating snowfall totals before the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort closes, the village is on track to break the record for the most snowfall in a given season…at least since they started keeping track in 1975. Some may argue with some of the totals and how they figure out how much snow actually fell, but one thing is for sure…it is…and will be…a season to remember.
As of this morning, the total snowfall this season is reported as 542″…and with a record of 577″ set in 96-97. Since the Raymer plot wasn’t used until 1998, the Rendezvous Bowl snow plot must be used to compare totals. I’m not sure why 1999 data is missing. Things are looking promising right now for continued moisture to flow through the region and my bet is that we will be at 580″ at the end of closing day…April 6th. What’s your guess?

Interesting dataset Steve…as many models and other such data has shown, local climate changes can typically be observed via a responce of low elevation snowpacks. Look at the amount of annual snowfall at the base area through time…shows a consistent decline from the 70’s (obviously there will always be outliers/noise). Many other low elevation SNOTEL sites through the rockies show this similar trend…Weird though because it sure as hell not getting any warmer in Jackson! Or is it?
No 93 and 94? I remember them being about average.
All I know is that I hit very few rock’s back in Jan! Local’s I skied with told me it was their 3rd best ski season locally.
Just got my copy of STEEP trough the mail today! that movie might be the best ever made on skimountainers. you unlucky with a resort closing in a week.. 😉

I’m thinking we will hit over 600″ before April 1st. If the snow keeps rolling in as it’s been we could have 630″+ by the 6th. It’s going to be a great summer. Below zero pow this morning.

Haven’t skied the resort yet this year…so not missing much I guess.
Rita, though it was cold with lots of moisture here in JH this year, we didn’t have as many high and dry, -20 degree spells as years past. It will be interesting to see what summer has in store.
