Wray Landon styles the Sliver.
After an insane powder run down the Banana Couloir on Mount Prospectors last week, I headed with some friends up to the Sliver on Nez Perce over the weekend. The line was all sloughed out with piles of dense snow down the middle of the whole couloir, and crusty near the top from the dripping water and snow coming from the steep walls that overhang the shot on the skiers left side. After lining up the cruxy entrance, I slid into the couloir alright…shaving lots of speed with a hard right turn, but somehow got twisted up after that and managed to face plant hard. Glad I was wearing my helmet, but I had a hard time getting back on my game for the rest of the run.
Here’s the POV footage from the wreck.
Alls good so long as you aren’t spitting Chicklets.
that reminds me…i’ve got a dentist appointment on thursday.
meh!
Can we see the uncensored version somewhere?
don’t want to offend the little ones. i try to keep this site pg-13. 🙂
“Looks like somebody’s got a case of the Mundays”…..
Good for you Steve for showing the SH** as well as the good stuff. We all take diggers, thanks for keeping it real!
I landed on my head last week as well…luckily I was wearing a helmet. Unfortunately I erased my footage:(
Steve – small tangent, but I can’t help notice you appear to be on the new, *Lighter* Verdict w/ tip rocker (sorry – the name escapes me). At least, I think that is what you are on. Any more thoughts?
nick…yeah, those are next years DRIFT. 100 at the waist…i’ve got some in 186cm. i’ve been enjoying them for the longer days and it feels so good to go to a light ski…after days lugging megawatts and justices around. very noticeable.
i’m trying to get a pair in 176s also…which i think could be the ultimate teton skimo ski…for tighter terrain.
Hoping to see a more in depth review of the Drift.
AT skiers?! (pictutre a chagrined look and a minor head shake).
our mouths are so…dirty!
hah! couldn’t tell in the vid… did your heels (pre)release?
Ah, an under-appreciated advantage of Dynafits: everyone complains about pre-release, but that reputation means you can fall in almost any situation and no one will question that it was the binding’s fault. Hell, I’ve seen people (who shall remain nameless) fall over while standing in the skin track and/or parking lot and pull it off.
Also, great post Steve, but what do you mean “us”, White Man? For the record, I have yet to fall in a super steep couloir once this year, and would appreciate it if you didn’t drag me into your private hell.
😉
Love it. As the earlier commenter said, this is keeping it real.
It’s nauseating to hear that genuine despair in someone’s voice! Especially over that kind of exposure.
“So … do you like to ski couloirs?”
josh…my left heel released during the wipe out. i think you can see and hear me click back in right at the end of the video. not sure i would call it a pre-release though. my toes were locked.
matt…i’m not sure what you are referring too…as i really don;t have any problems with my boots popping out of dynafits. i write most bad experienced people have with dynafit and most other gear as “user error”.
and for the record…the sliver isn’t really that steep…which i guess makes me even more weak-sauce i guess.
scott…YES!!! 🙂
ooooh, biffed it!
Why even ski that couli. looks lame to me. youre music is bad
Sorry Steve, I was totally joking, which I clearly did very badly. I don’t have any problem with pre-release either, but it does seem to be something that people often bring up with Dynafits.
Also joking on the slope angle. I am a TERRIBLE skier (which, I mean, how could you know that). I mean, if you’re weak sauce, I don’t know WHAT I am, but it’s pretty bad, whatever it is (it’s ALL steep to me!). Anyway, it’s a great video, and very comforting to see that even the talented fall occasionally. Apologies for any offense.
matt…no offense taken.
jumbo on the other hand…you sound like an idiot.
“After an insane powder run down the Banana Couloir on Mount Prospectors last week…”
Isn’t Prospectors part of the winter wildlife closure?
Tony…know your range man.

Good to know, man… thanks for the link!
